Every now and then, a lovely little project lands in our inbox that we simply can't say no to.
This was one of them.
On Monday, 27 July, CakeLabNZ was lucky enough to be part of a beautiful wedding photoshoot at Tarureka Estate in Featherston, Wairarapa by David Le. We were contacted by Lydia from We Are The Whimsy and invited to create a dessert for the shoot, and the brief was one of our favourites: tiramisu.
Tiramisu, but make it wedding-ready
We love cake, obviously, but we also love creating desserts that aren't necessarily a traditional wedding cake.
For this shoot, we made a plate of tiramisu, bringing together coffee, mascarpone, zabaione, cocoa, savoiardi, and a hint of Marsala as per classic Italian grandma recipe in a format that looked just as lovely as it tasted.
Tiramisu can be such a beautiful option for a wedding dessert. It feels a little indulgent, but still elegant and familiar, and can be made in a large plate and decorated with stenciled names or individual portions work beautifully for a wedding table, cocktail-style celebration or as something extra alongside the main wedding cake.
And let's be honest, who doesn't love tiramisu?

The photoshoot took place at Tarureka Estate, one of the beautiful wedding venues here in Featherston, Wairarapa.
There is something special about seeing local wedding vendors come together in a space like this. A photoshoot gives everyone the chance to experiment, play with ideas and create something that might inspire couples planning their own wedding.
For us, it was also a lovely reminder of how many talented creatives there are in the Wairarapa and Wellington wedding industry.
We were very happy to be a small part of it.
Behind the scenes
Being invited to a styled photoshoot is always a little different from making a cake for a real wedding. Instead of creating something based entirely around one couple's story, we get to work alongside photographers, stylists and other creatives to make something that looks beautiful through the lens.
And then there is the best part: watching the process, participating, taking photos, and seeing the finished photographs.
