What a day! We had an absolute blast at the Tarureka Estate Wedding Open Day, meeting so many excited couples, catching up with fellow wedding vendors, and sharing our love of cake. The venue looked incredible, full of creative displays, gorgeous setups, and people dreaming about their perfect weddings in the Wairarapa.
We couldn’t believe how many people stopped by our table, asking about flavours, designs, and of course, the cake itself. It’s days like this that remind us why we love what we do — being part of such a fun, creative, and supportive local wedding community.
Crinkle icing wedding cake at Tarureka Estate
Our crinkle icing wedding cake decorated with wild florals was definitely the star of the show. The soft texture, natural florals, and sculptural finish drew so many compliments, and we loved every second of seeing people’s reactions.
The CakeLabNZ flavour samples were another hit — they disappeared fast (thanks to the vendors too). Watching couples discover their favourite flavour is honestly one of the best parts of our job. The winners were the Honey cake and Earl Grey and Lemon.
Couples were so excited about that crinkle design, and we’re already thinking about how to make it work in buttercream or edible mediums too. Lots of people loved it, and we’ll be experimenting soon with ways to make that texture without relying on fondant, which, let’s be honest, we’re not best friends with.
